The England manager Criticizes Home Fan Atmosphere Despite Emphatic Win Over Wales.
The England head coach shared his regret that the Three Lions team did not receive greater encouragement from the Wembley spectators during their decisive 3-0 friendly victory on Thursday evening.
Tuchel was pleased to see his team continue their winning momentum, with goals from Rogers, Watkins, and Bukayo Saka inside the opening quarter settling the game. However, he was displeased with the mood at the iconic venue.
“With limited sessions to get ready against a well-trained team and we performed excellently,” Tuchel remarked. “We could have been 5-0 up at the break. We couldn’t score the additional ones. It was quiet. We didn’t get any energy back from the crowd. Our team gave their all to win.”
“What more can you give in the first quarter? We prevented them escape. If you hear just Wales fans for half an hour, it’s regrettable because the squad deserved greater backing today.”
“I support my words. We cannot do more than being 3-0 in a derby. I would have wished for a little more backing in moments where it gets difficult.”
“After halftime, to support us, there was a bit too much backing for the opposition. It might have aided us to recharge, but that’s the way it went and so be it.”
Squad Decisions Vindicated by Display
Apart from risking a dispute among supporters, Tuchel also created controversy by excluding Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden from his team selection. However the decision was justified by Rogers impressing again in the No 10 position and netting his first international goal.
“He is what he is,” Tuchel noted. “He operates as an attacking midfielder and he is fighting for his position.”
Wales Manager Seeks Lessons from Defeat
The Wales manager expressed hope that his team, who host a strong Belgian side in a crucial World Cup qualifier on Monday, improve after their poor first-half display.
“That’s the reason I wanted this game,” the manager stated. “I need to see our standing. Where do we want to go? What is our identity? Today gives me inspiration.”
Injury Concern for Striker
Watkins was withdrawn at half-time after colliding with a goalpost and will be a doubt when England face Latvia in Riga in a qualifier on Tuesday.
