Exploring an Bizarre Steam Demo: Controlling a Turdy Character on a Quest to Arrive at the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is now live, and enthusiasts have encountered plenty of entertaining independent titles. Yet, one stands out for its offbeat concept. Called Unko Technica, this classic-feel jumping adventure includes a hero that is truly a piece of poop trying to make its way to a restroom. As a fun fact, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."
The gameplay is straightforward: press a single jump button. Throughout 150 levels, battle mini-bosses and unlock a shop to buy customizations for your dung hero.
Plan your movements precisely, as a mistake forces restarting the level. Bounce off air pockets to hurl the poop higher, cross crumbling ledges, and interact with buttons to unlock new areas. Earn coins to purchase more difficult stages in which things ramps up.
In terms of design, the game features vibrant level designs and an amazing soundtrack. The simple graphics featuring moving geometric shapes evokes memories of players of beloved games like Earthbound.
Although difficult to recall previous releases where you are a piece of feces, interactive entertainment have long included toilet humor. For example, in Death Stranding, players craft explosives from character waste. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use feces as soil enrichment. And of course, such content shows up extensively in the South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.
Putting aside its goofy concept, Unko Technica has already garnered significant awards, including being named best at Bandai Namco's game competition in 2023. A playable preview is available at present on Steam, with the complete version set to launch on Steam on November 19.
